Private Oratory

Northern Illinois

This new private oratory, designed in the Roman Corinthian order, provides a dedicated space for the celebration of Mass for 35--40 worshippers. The rectangular chapel culminates in a sanctuary raised one step above the nave, framed by paired Corinthian columns and pilasters that support a richly detailed entablature with dentil molding. Above, a coffered, arched ceiling draws the eye toward the altar wall, where the crucifix is set within an arched niche.

Tall arched windows along both side walls bring abundant natural light into the space and will be infilled with stained glass in a future phase of the project.

Materials include custom millwork in both painted and stained wood finishes, marble and porcelain flooring, and traditional wood pews. The design is completed with sacred artwork and statuary integrated throughout, creating a warm, reverent atmosphere appropriate for daily Mass and private devotion.
